Dawson lives with his mother and 4 siblings in a two-room, semiplastered, bungalow-style house which she is taking care of for a relative. The home has a 3-bulb solar panel for lighting with a charging port for the phone. The children share two beds. Water is available from a community tap for purchase or from a nearby spring, and is boiled for drinking. The family cooks outdoors with firewood and has an outdoor bathroom facility that is in good condition.
Dawson’s father left the family after he was born; he relocated and remarried and is not in contact with his children at all. Dawson’s mother is the sole provider for the family. She has a small vegetable stall and does laundry to try and make a living, but her income is meager and it is challenging to meet all of her children’s needs.
